This blog will be the creative equivalent of the junk drawer - full of some random stuff that might end up useful or interesting, but often lacking in a unifying theme. So welcome to our junk drawer.

Please turn your head and coffee
| Alas, poor predictable quote... |
Guess who's gonna live forever???
The health benefits of coffee are extolled in this NY Daily News article, and for once, this monument to journalistic integrity did not include a picture of a woman in a "dress" that is really a shirt.
Also, in the article, they reference a scientist named Dr. Frank Hu. And frankly (heh), "Frank Hu" sounds like a sanitized version of an expletive-themed tell-off. Y'know, the kind they use when they show Glengarry Glen Ross on network television.
Read and raise a cup to longevity.

It's so problematic.
So back in my women's (womyn's?) college days, my girlfriends (womynfriends?) and I use to joke around about Barnard humor - it involved calling everything "problematic" (especially the term "woman") and going around saying, "What is this - Ibsen?!" because this is crap we'd overhear on the quad, in the classroom, etc. and dammit, if women's college students who take everything too seriously and/or incredulously reference Dutch playwrights aren't funny, then I don't know what is.
And today, Jezebel posted this.
And we all thought of each other. It's like going home again.
And clearly I'm a bad feminist, what with the drowning my sorrows in my chemical dependency and all.

Ew.
Saw this at the deli over near the Pelham Pkwy stop on the 2 train.
And I immediately thought:
Good. There hasn't been nearly enough Vitamin R in my diet.

Monkey Butt
One of the many reasons you need the friends who knew you before you had braces:
Because they are the friends that will send you links to a story about a guy who licked a monkey's butt. Tony sent this my way in an email with no subject and no text except the link. Because really, are there any words that adequately describe it? I think not.

Happy Teacher Appreciation Day
To my dad, coworkers, and friends. To all teachers, past and present. Here's hoping today you felt a little appreciation today from those who count.
(One of my juniors gave me a travel coffee mug and a journal. I'm gonna fill one with coffee and one with words. Better be careful not to mix 'em up.)
